17 Jul AlfaMed at the RDA 2018 national championships
This weekend saw AlfaMed working alongside the volunteers of Warwick Ambulance Association to provide professional and responsive medical cover at the RDA national championships at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire.
Thankfully our pre-hospital care skills were not needed, aside from a few minor first aid cases and riders who unfortunately fell from their horses (unscathed you’ll be pleased to know). The only real problem we faced was keeping up a steady supply of cold drinks to keep us all cool.
The RDA national champs an equestrian event solely for disabled riders and carriage drivers, and is the largest of its kind. The event also serves as the feeder channel for the next generation of equestrian Paralympians.
The event sees disabled riders from across the UK competing at the highest national level of disabled equestrian sport, showing that disability needn’t be a barrier to success.
Congratulations to all the competitors and winners of the classes!
If you’re interested in horse riding events and disability sports then the 2019 championships are definitely going to be worth a visit, and while your at it why not see how to support this fantastic charity in their work to enable and empower disabled people through horse riding.
